Secondary Education

Students studying for certification as teachers of English at the secondary level are required to take a variety of courses through the English Department in addition to their work in the Department of Education. Requirements for specialization in English are listed below.

  • ENG W100—Intro. to English Studies
  • ENG W105—Literacy and Society
  • ENG 0111—Introduction to Linguistics (This can also be fulfilled with Communication Sciences 0108 or Anthropology 0127)
  • ENG 0114—Survey of English Literature, Beginnings to 1660
  • ENG 0115—Survey of English Literature, 1660-1900
  • ENG o116—Survey of American Literature
  • ENG 0117—Survey of American Literature II
  • ENG R125—African American Literature I
  • ENG W133—Shakespeare
  • ENG 0170—Art of the Film
  • ENG 0212—Linguistics and Grammar
  • ENG 0258—Issues in Modern Literature
  • ENG XXX—One W300-level Senior Seminar in English
