Dennis Lebofsky is the director of the program; Keith Gumery, the associate director; Jennifer Maloy, the composition assistant; and Derrick Johnson and Mary McCoy are the program’s secretaries.

English 40 and English 50 form a year-long sequence to designed introduce students to academic discourse. Entering first-year students are either placed into the 40/50 sequence, placed only in 50, or exempted from first-year writing courses entirely. Placement is based on a formula which takes into account the results of a placement essay, DTLS reading and writing scores, high school rank, and the SAT verbal score.

If you have any questions about the First-Year Writing Program, we invite you to stop by the office or contact us.
